Kaskaskia College's welding program
trains students how to weld to a specific code or standard.
Welding codes have been established by a professional
society that deals with the specifics of welding and
welding processes for both structural steel and plate,
or pressure vessels and piping. Examples of such
professional organizations would be the American Welding
Society (A.W.S.), American Society for Mechanical Engineers
(A.S.M.E.), or the American Petroleum Institute (A.P.I.).
Many of the better paying jobs in the metal fabrication
trades that use an extensive amount of welding will
only let those individuals that have passed a qualification
test for a specific process of welding do the work.
Make sure that the college you are going to attend
offers a welding qualification exam based upon the standards
of a professionally recognized organization that deals
with welding.
